Beef Stir Fry w/ Qing Geng Cai

Qing geng cai is a Chinese vegetable and it is very good for stir-fry. You can get it at any Chinese super market. This dish is very quick and filling. Enjoy!

Yield: 2 servings
Time: 15 minutes

Ingredients

  • 1/2 lb sliced beef (about 2 inches thick)
  • 4 roots Qing geng cai (about 0.4 lb, chop about 2in each)
  • Small, dried red pepper (optional)
Spices
  • 2 tbs soy sauce
  • 2 tbs sake
  • 3 tbs sugar
  • dash of salt and pepper
Preparation
  1. Mix spices (sugar, sake, soy sauce), beef in a bowl
  2. Heat the oil in a frying pan and cook vegetables for 2 minutes over medium heat, add salt and pepper, then remove from pan
  3. Add beef to the frying pan and cook until done, about 4 mins
  4. Add vegetable back to the frying pan, and red pepper, stir, and serve

  1. It's interesting how people in different countries cook with the same ingredient. When I stir fry vegetable, I usually just mix it with a little bit of salt in the end instead of soy sauce. I will try the soy sauce next time.
