Nikujyaga

Nikujyaga is a very popular meal at home in Japan. The ingredients are typically beef or pork, potato, onion, and carrot stewed in a somewhat sweet sauce. Boys will often request their girlfriends to make this dish because it is very much a comfort food. Thus, many women will remark that it is their favorite and most delicious dish to make.

  • 2 tbsp soy sauce

  4. Serve and enjoy!

  1. Hi, Mai,

Do most Japanese girls know how to make this dish?

I was wondering the other day if you ever bake or make desserts? It would be very interesting to know how to make those. Just my 2 cents.

  3. Elaine,
Yes, most Japanese girls do know how to make Nikujyaga! It's really easy and boys like it, so they're happy to make it for them! I don't do much baking, actually, or deserts for that matter, but my friend, Emi, does and she has her own recipe blog here: http://cookingwithemi.blogspot.com

I made Nikujaga the other night. It is indeed a very comforting food, especially when it's cold and rainning outside.

    Thanks for the recipe.
